If memory is how we orient in the world, then loss of memory capabilities creates a bottleneck in individuals’ OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) loops.
Scrolling on TikTok for eg is just hitting the Observe button endlessly with very little Orienting. You get tons of information but don’t hold it in your mind long enough to form multiple potential courses of action. Instead, you just act on impulse
So memory is a necessary condition for agency
